When a person who owns property dies, the Probate Court becomes involved to oversee the administration process. A copy of a will that has been authenticated by a court of competent jurisdiction and accompanied by a grant of administration of the testator's estate is referred to as "probating" the will. The person named as the executor in the will is eligible to be appointed by the probate judge.
The administration of decedents' estates is a legal process by which any outstanding financial obligations of a deceased person are paid, and the person's property is transferred to those entitled to receive it.
In addition, a probate is necessary if the estate includes immovable property located in Connecticut.
